A new world, material without being real, where poor ghosts, breathing dreams like air, drifted fortuitously about… “A new world, material without being real.” Paradoxically, it was Gatsby’s dream that conferred reality upon the world. The reality was in his faith in - value of discipline, the goodness of creation, and in the possibilities of life. The intellectual and the active powers seem to succeed each other, and the exclusive activity of the one, generates the exclusive activity of the english other. There is something unfriendly in each to the other, but they are like the alternate periods of feeding and working in animals; each prepares and will be followed by the other.
